National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are Institutions of National Importance Under MHRD, Govt. of India. The NIMCET is a Common Entrance National Level Test, conducted by any of the NITs ,for admission in to their MCA programme. The MCA prgoramme is offered by NITs at Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Calicut, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli and Warangal. The admission into the MCA programme for the year 2017-18 is based on the Rank obtained in NIMCET-2017 ONLY.  
 
Test Date - Sunday, 28th May 2017 Timing : 10 A.M to 12 Noon.

Eligibility Criteria for NIMCET 2017- 
lndian Nationals securing at least 60% marks in aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10 point scales (55% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point
scale in case of SC/ ST) in 
  1.  B.Sc / B.Sc (Hons) / BCA / BIT of minimum three years full-time with Mathematics/Statistics/Equivalent subject *as one of the subject from a recognized University.OR
  2. B E /B Tech or equivalent from a recognized University are eligible to appear for NIMCET-20I7.
Conversion of scored marks from CGPA to percentage and vice-versa is not permitted. (CCPA other than 10 point scale will be converted to 10 point scale based on Unitary method)
*Equivalence will be established by a duly constituted equivalence committee whose decision will be final.

 Exam Pattern :
NIMCET-2017 test will be conducted with only one question paper containing 120 multiple choice
questions covering the following subjects. Multiple Choice Questions will be written in English Language only and will not be translated into any other language.

Mathematics 50 questions
Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning 40 questions
Computer Awareness 10 questions
General English 20 questions

Award of Marks :  
  • Each correctly answered question will carry FOUR marks and each wrongly answered question will lead to NEGATIVE ONE mark. 
  • The candidates are advised not to attempt such questions if they are not sure of the correct answer. 
  • No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if a question is unanswered. 
  • More than one answer indicated against a question will be negatively marked. 
  • The candidates have to mark the responses in the OMR sheet using black or blue ink ball point pen only.
SYLLABUS FOR NIMCET 2017 ENTRANCE TEST

MATHEMATICS : ( 50 questions)

Set Theory: Concepts of sets – Union – Intersection – Cardinality – Elementary counting, permutations and combinations 

Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies and dispersions.

Algebra: Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansions, Factorization, simultaneous linear/quadratic equations, indices, logarithms- arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, determinants and matrices.

Coordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, distance formulae, equations of a line, intersection of lines, pair of straight lines, equations of a circle, parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola.

Calculus: Limit of functions, Continuous functions, Differentiation of functions, tangents and normals, simple examples of maxima and minima. Integration of function by parts, by substitution and by partial fraction; Definite integrals, Applications of Definite Integrals to areas.

Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics.

Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, heights and distances, General solutions of trigonometric equations.

ANALYTICAL ABILITY AND LOGICAL REASONING: (40 questions)
The questions in this section will cover logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude. Some of the questions will be on comprehension of a logical situation and questions based on the facts given in the passage.


COMPUTER AWARENESS: (10 questions)
 

Computer Basics: Organization of a Computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions in CPU, input / output devices, computer memory, back-up devices. 

Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, Binary Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, simple arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.

GENERAL ENGLISH: (20 questions)
Questions in this section will be designed to test the candidates’ general understanding of the English language. There will be questions on the following topics. Comprehension, Vocabulary, Basic English Grammar (like usage of correct forms of verbs, prepositions and articles), Word power, Synonyms and Antonyms, Meanings of words and phrases, Technical writing.

Qualifying Criteria for Allotment of Rank
  • Candidate securing zero or negative marks either in Mathematics or Total Marks in NIMCET-2017 test will be disqualified. 
  • Based on the marks obtained by a qualified candidate in NIMCET-2017 test, a rank will be allotted byadopting the following criteria.
  •  The marks obtained in Mathematics, Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness,English, will be multiplied by a factor of 3, 1½ , 2 and 1 respectively. Thus maximum weighted marks will be 1000. 
  • Ranking will be based on total weighted marks obtained by a candidate. In case of a tie, it will be resolved based on weighted marks in Mathematics, then on weighted marks in Logical reasoning and then on weighted marks in Computer Awareness. 
  • In case the tie is not resolved by the above criteria stated in the above paragraph, then it will be resolved by age i.e., in favour of elder candidate.

Test for MCA
 (Test code 501) comprises 150 objective type questions designed to test the aptitude and capability of an applicant for pursuing the M.C.A programme. About 50% o f the questions will be from Mathematics covering areas of Engineering Mathematics / B.Sc. subsidiary level Mathematics while the remaining questions will be to test the ability of the candidate in logical reasoning based on pictures, geometrical figures, patterns of words, Number Sequence, Set Theory, Logic decoding etc.

Test for MSc (Computer Science) and Lateral Entry to III Semester MCA (MLET)/ (Test code 502) 
The aptitude test 502 comprises of 150 objective type questions designed to test the aptitude and capability of an applicant for pursuing the MCA (Lateral Entry)/MSc Computer Science Programme. 100 questions will be from Computer Science and Applications covering areas such as C, C++, Data Base Management Systems, Algorithms, Data Structures, Operating Systems at the Bachelor Level of Computer Science/Information Technology/Computer Applications while the remaining 50 questions will be to test the ability of the candidate in logical reasoning based on pictures, geometrical figure, pattern of words, number sequence, logic decoding, Basic mathematics etc.

Application form processing fee as stated below is to be paid through online system only by  Internet Payment, Credit Card/ Debit Card (RuPay/Visa/MasterCard/Maestro), Internet Banking, IMPS, Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets for which the service charges, as per rules, shall be applicable in addition to the application form processing fee. No other mode of payment shall be permitted. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances.

Eligibility Criteria for Appearing to MAH-MCA-CET 2017
The candidate should fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
  1. The candidate should be an Indian National; 
  2. Passed minimum three year duration Bachelors Degree awarded by University recognized
    by University Grants Commission or Association of Indian Universities in any discipline with
    at least 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent (at least 45% in case of candidates of backward class categories and Persons with Disability belonging to Maharashtra State only);
  3. Studied Mathematics as one of the subjects at (10+2) level or at Graduate level examination;
    (iv) For Direct second year admissions, the candidate should have passed Bachelor Degree in
    Computer Applications or Science (Information Technology or Computer Science);
    (Candidates appearing for final year of qualifying examination are also eligible to appear for CET)

    *Note: Aggregate marks means the grand total of marks obtained by the candidate in
    subjects on which the class declaration is made in the particular University from
    which the candidate is passing the qualifying examination. 
    Marking Scheme for MAH-MCA-CET 2017 
    The Online CET would be comprised of two online papers viz. General Aptitude (GA) and Computer Concepts (CC) of 100 marks each, with composite time of 90 minutes duration. Each paper shall have 25 questions
    1. General Aptitude
    The main objective of this paper is to assess the general aptitude of the candidate to pursue a computer applications and software profession.
    Syllabus
    The questions in this paper will cover: logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, high school mathematics, vocabulary, English comprehension and verbal ability. A good grasp of the following topics of high school mathematics (up to the 12th standard) will be useful: 
  •  Algebra : Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansion, factorization, Quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions,
    binomial theorem, permutations and combinations.
     
  • Co-ordinate Geometry : Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates, equations of a line, mid
    point, intersections etc., equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of straight lines,
    parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, simple geometric transformations such as translation,
    rotation, scaling.
     
  • Differential Equations: Differential equations of first order and their solutions, linear
    differential equations with constant coefficients, homogenous linear differential
    equations.
     
  • Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles,
    solution of triangles, height and distance, inverse function.
     
  • Probability and Statistics : Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent
    and independent events, frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions,
    skewness and kurtosis, random variable and distribution functions, mathematical
    expectations, Binomial, Poisson, normal distributions, curve fitting, and principle of least
    squares, correlation and regression.
     
  •  Arithmetic: Ratios and proportions, problems on time-work, distance-speed, percentage,
    etc.
     
  •  Basic Set Theory and Functions: Set, relations and mappings.
     
  •  Mensuration: areas, triangles and quadrilaterals, area and circumference of circles,
    volumes and surface areas of simple solids such as cubes, spheres, cylinders and cones.
    2. Computer Concepts

  •  Computer Basics : Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions in CPU, input / output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back-up devices.
     
  • Data Representation : Representation of characters, integers, and fractions, binary and

    multiplication, signed arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point
    representation of numbers, normalized floating point representation, Boolean algebra,
    truth tables, Venn diagrams.
  • Computer Architecture: Block structure of computers, communication between
    processor and I / O devices, interrupts.
     
  • Computer Language: Assembly language and high level language, Multi programming
    and time sharing operating systems, Computer Programming in C.
     
  • Operating System basics: Multi programming and time sharing operating systems.

There shall be one paper of 120 minutes duration carrying 360 marks containing 120 multiple-choice questions on
Mathematical Aptitude (about 80 questions), and
Analytical and Logical Reasoning (about 40 questions).

Mathematical Aptitude Test Areas (+2 Level):
Logarithms, Inequalities, Matrices and Determinants, Progressions, Binomial Expansion, Permutation and Combination, Equations (upto degree 2), Function and Relation, Complex Arithmetic, 2 D Coordinate Geometry, Basics of Calculus, Basic Concepts of Probability. 

Analytical and Logical Reasoning:
Questions will be mainly for checking logical conclusion, graphical/data interpretation, etc.

Mode of Payment of Application Processing/Test Fee
Candidate is required to fill up the PET 2017 Application Form ONLINE as the printed Information Bulletin-cum-Application Form will not be sold by the University. After the candidate has filled up the application form online, he/she will have following options for payment of Application Processing/Entrance Test Fee:
  1. Online payment through credit card/ debit card through the payment gateway available on the Entrance test portal.
  2. Payment of Entrance Test Fee in Cash through “Challan” in any branch of HDFC Bank (facility will be available only during banking hours on any banking day): After filling up the application form, its submission and selecting this mode for payment, the candidate can print the Challan from the entrance test portal. The printout of challan will contain all necessary details of the candidate, bank account details of the Banaras Hindu University in which the entrance test fee will be deposited and the exact amount to be deposited. The candidate will be required to visit any branch of the HDFC Bank of his/her choice (only during banking hours on any banking day) where he/she will be required to deposit the requisite Fee amount to the Bank.
Note :
(i) The Application Form once submitted with the Application Processing/ Entrance Test Fee at concessional rate meant for SC/ST candidate shall be considered under SC/ST Category
(ii) The Application Processing/ Entrance Test Fee paid shall neither be refunded nor transferred to another course and shall also not be reserved for any subsequent year, in any case.
